Line Edit

Smooth out the rough edges

Your story is solid, but your prose needs some assistance.

What is a line edit?

A line edit happens after developmental edits but before a copyedit. Instead of focusing on the story itself, the line edit checks sentence- and paragraph-level issues within your manuscript. It focuses on the readability of your prose from a reader's perspective.

What does a line edit check?

At the paragraph level, the line edit checks for relevance, paragraph flow, and paragraph length. At the sentence level, we evaluate sentence flow, sentence structure, tone, voice, and pacing.

The line edit does not check for grammar. You will change many sentences during this edit, and it is exceptionally difficult to correct the grammar of unwritten prose.

The line edit will

Copyedit

In-depth grammar

Your story is solid and your prose flows like a great river. Your grammar, on the other hand, could use an iron.

What is a copyedit?

The copyedit focuses mostly on grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Specifically, we will

Line Edit + Copyedit

Smooth and polish at the same time

Your story is solid. At this point, any edit feels like a formality, but you know it's necessary. You want your readers to appreciate your artistry without accidental flow or grammar hiccups.

What is a line edit + copyedit?

Both the line edit and copyedit tackle sentence-level issues within your manuscript. These edits should come after developmental edits and before proofreading.

This bundle handles the line and copyedits concurrently. You will not receive your manuscript back for edits between the line edit and copyedit. If you need to correct your prose before diving into grammar, you should book the services separately.

What does a line edit + copyedit check?

This bundle checks for everything that the individual services check for above. If you haven't read about those services, feel free to scroll up and check them out before reading on.
